# Connect DealScore to Cursor

You connect DealScore to Cursor by adding its MCP URL, https://cardealscore.com/api/mcp, under mcpServers in .cursor/mcp.json with no headers, then finishing the email sign-in Cursor opens in your browser. DealScore is a remote MCP server at `https://cardealscore.com/api/mcp`. Cursor reads `.cursor/mcp.json`, discovers OAuth from that URL, and opens a browser for the email sign-in. After you approve access, the agent can call `score_deal`.

## Add the server

1. In the project, create or open `.cursor/mcp.json`. Cursor MCP settings can hold the same config.
2. Paste the config below. Leave headers out. The URL alone is what Cursor uses to start OAuth.
3. Save the file. Cursor discovers OAuth and opens a browser for the email sign-in.
4. Open the email link DealScore sends and approve access. Cursor then calls the server with the access token.
5. In agent chat, ask Cursor to call `score_deal` with a year, make, model, asking price, and mileage. ZIP is optional.

.cursor/mcp.json:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dealscore": {
      "url": "https://cardealscore.com/api/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

No headers. Cursor discovers OAuth and opens a browser for the email sign-in. Full setup: /integrations/cursor.

## Quick answers

### What goes in .cursor/mcp.json for DealScore?

A dealscore entry under mcpServers with url set to https://cardealscore.com/api/mcp and no headers. Cursor MCP settings can hold the same config.

### How does Cursor sign in to DealScore?

With OAuth. Cursor discovers OAuth from the URL and opens a browser for the email sign-in. After you approve access, it calls the server with the access token. A headers block on the entry skips that sign-in.

### Can Cursor use a DealScore API key instead?

Yes, when the browser sign-in is unavailable. Create a key at /keys and send it in an x-api-key header on the same URL. Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY also works.

### Which tools does Cursor get, and what do they cost?

score_deal, explain_grade, and health. Free includes 5 scored calls a month. Only results with coverage: scored count, and explain_grade and health are never metered.

## API key, when the browser sign-in is unavailable

Cursor's OAuth path above is the one to use. A client that cannot open a browser can send `x-api-key` instead. Create the key on https://cardealscore.com/keys. `Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY` works in that header slot too.

MCP config with an API key:

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dealscore": {
      "url": "https://cardealscore.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": { "x-api-key": "YOUR_KEY" }
    }
  }
}
```

## If score_deal is missing

- The OAuth config is a `url` and no `headers`. A header on that block skips the browser sign-in.
- Finish the email sign-in. An unfinished consent leaves `score_deal` unauthorized.
- `coverage: cannot_score` with a null grade means comps were too thin. The connection worked.
- `score_quota_exceeded` means the monthly cap is spent. The connection worked. Plans: https://cardealscore.com/pricing

## What the agent can call

`score_deal` grades a deal. Send `asking_price` and `mileage`, plus a VIN or year, make, and model. `trim` and `zip` are optional. `explain_grade` maps a `delta_pct` to a grade without fetching comps. `health` reports coverage and limits. Free includes 5 scored calls a month and Builder is $19/mo (founding price) for 1,000 scored calls a month. Only `coverage: scored` counts, and `explain_grade` and `health` are never metered.
